Doctors Who Treat Opioid Addiction Often See Very Few Patients

A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the majority of doctors who are qualified to provide medication-assisted treatment for opioid abuse provide this treatment to fewer than 30 patients a month. Rural areas typically have less access to medication, fewer qualified doctors, and less access to counseling services, which are supposed to be offered with the medication.
